Roman "The Actress" James

Actress, writer, producer and frugal fashionista, Roman James is a multi-hometowner having made her home all over the country from coast-to-coast.  She currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.  Since being in the "Hollywood of the South" she added the title of entrepreneur to her multi-hyphenate status by founding and operating Actors' Innovative Resource (www.aireatl.com), a professional development and enrichment organization for actors based in metro Atlanta.

Roman attended Virginia State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology (after five years – don’t ask).  Upon graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue a career in entertainment.  In D.C., she got her start in production with a local, full-service, video production company that had contracts with BET, the United States Postal Service and the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation among others.  She ascended from intern to production assistant to associate producer in just over a year.

Never one to let grass grow under her feet, Roman trekked across country to Los Angeles toting her life’s possessions in a very, very small U-Haul trailer attached to her 1980 Volvo.  Although she went with the dream in mind of becoming Hollywood’s uber-studio head honcho, she had a lapse in judgment and decided to become an actor.

Roman studied acting all over Hollywood and soon began plying her craft on the stage and in commercials for brands such as Visa, Miller Genuine Draft, Coors and Tampax.  In film and television, the Screen Actor’s Guild member has been blessed to work with the likes of Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg, Jamie Foxx, Robert Townsend, Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad amongst others.

Her most recent accomplishments have been in the national tour of the hit stage play, “The Bachelorette Party,” written by Don B. Welch and co-produced by Will Smith.  She can be seen in an online ad for SunTrust bank and heard in a radio spot for Publix grocery stores.  Up next, an indie, coming-of-age tale about child exploitation titled Life.less and a terrifyingly-interesting short-form thriller about a serial killer called Eros.

When not working her trade, studying or consulting with actors, Roman is a big sister through the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization of metro Atlanta.  She has also worked with volunteer organizations that serve the homeless all across the country.  She is an active member of Women in Film and Television Atlanta and hopes that in sharing her journey in the “biz” she will enable some other actor’s success.
