Carol West is a writer, singer/songwriter, an aspiring novelist, a journalist and much more. Her talents run the gamut in depth, intelligence and emotion. Though specializing in human interest stories, she also freelances for several trade and entertainment publications and is composing her first literary masterpiece. Additionally, she has published her own periodical online and in print as well as having served as chief editor for special interest publications. Carol has developed and produced programming for use in radio and television and has executive level experience in launching a start-up television network and a new urban radio station in the metro Washington, DC metro area. Additionally, she loves to perform! She performed background vocals for El Debarge, sang lead for several bands (jazz and gospel) and created educational/public service commercials seen in high schools across the country, as well as worked on her own recording project. Additionally, she has on and off camera television experience as well as on-air radio experience. She has the ability to gauge the pulse of viewers, listeners and readers in various markets.
She has spent much of her career researching trends and tips related to her various industries and offered valuable information to aid in marketing and public relations for the various companies she has worked with. A quirky analyst with a penchant for movies and pop culture, she was destined to surround herself with all things media.
A seven year tenure as a Regional Program Manager and later as an Account Manager for SES New Skies, a Dutch satellite operator/provider to the world, launched her foray into the technical understanding of television, radio, internet, and cell phone transmission. Her crossover from the technical aspect into the content provision was a natural one as she began to meet content providers who were desperately seeking transmission options to launch their content. Her writing skills and ability to recognize quality content with staying power and proven track records were in high demand. Recognizing which clients would be able to navigate and maintain longevity in the marketplace was crucial to her success in this role. Clients like Direct TV (US and Latin America ), Telemundo, RHN, CW and My Network TV, among others, were instrumental in allowing Carol to really discover the world of content provision up close and personal.
As her works have been seen in Billboard Magazine, HR Magazine, and recently published in SHRM’s how-to book, How to Manage People, Mrs. West has also earned a reputation as a celebrity journalist. Her recent interviews with Serena Williams, Big G of the Wire and Idris Elba - to name a few - have been a great success. She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and Unity Journalists and is based in Suburban Atlanta .
